Message from Founder
Abdul-Jalil Abubakari is the visionary founder of The Tawbah Foundation which initially started as Tawbah Reform and Educational Project in Tamale, Northern Ghana offering free after school lessons for students prioritizing drop-outs and non-schooled students. Born and raised in extreme poverty in Ghana, Abdul-Jalil experienced firsthand the challenges faced by children in underserved communities. Despite countless obstacles including dropping out of school due to financial hardship yet he rose with unwavering determination to serve others, especially those society often forgets knowing exactly how it feels to be in their place
Driven by compassion, faith, and a deep sense of purpose, he began teaching a few children under a tree in his neighborhood in Tamale. What started as a small act of service providing free extra classes and study materials quickly grew into a movement. As parents began to notice improvements in their children’s academic performance and discipline, the number of students grew rapidly.
In February 2025, this humble grassroots effort officially became The Tawbah Foundation a fully registered non-profit NGO focused on providing free education, mentorship, mental health awareness, and social reintegration for children, youth and marginalized individuals. Today, Tawbah serves over 150 children in Vittin Tamale with groundworks laid to expland to more communities by the end of July 2025 and possibly the whole Northern Region and all over our great homeland Ghana.
Under Abdul-Jalil’s leadership, Tawbah is more than just an NGO. it is a beacon of hope, proving that from pain can rise purpose, and from nothing can emerge something truly transformational. Not a professional by any means—just a willing heart to serve.
